Empowering Students: Using a Self-Management Skill Approach to Social-Emotional Learning

Teaching self-management skills (SMS) is central to conceptual physical education (CPE). SMS have been used to empower students, promote healthy lifestyles, and enhance social-emotional learning (SEL). Student discussions of hypothetical scenarios can be used to promote SMS (e.g., goal setting, self-assessment, finding social support, conflict resolution) and SEL (e.g., social awareness, relationship skills). Scenarios are presented.
