Practical and meaningful biomechanics in the applied world

Dr Philip Graham-Smith
You must log in to watch this webinar recording.

Applications of biomechanics to elite and youth populations – experiences, considerations and practical advice.

This webinar will address how the delivery of biomechanical support to athletes has changed over the last twenty years and will identify some key principles of providing practical and performance impacting support to athletes in the applied setting. Experiences and cultural considerations of working with both elite senior and youth athletes both in the UK and Qatar will be shared. The extent to which new technologies are enhancing support (or otherwise) will also be discussed. Participants will be challenged to reflect on how their support is making an impact in the real world.

Following the webinar participants should be able to:

  • Describe key principles and considerations of providing meaningful biomechanical support to coaches and athletes
  • Explain how a biomechanist should operate within an inter-professional service team
  • Critique their own support services and evaluate the appropriateness of testing and feedback for the population they support
  • Critique the appropriateness of technologies for the outcomes they wish to achieve

Dr Philip Graham-Smith is currently the Head of Biomechanics at the Aspire Academy of Sporting Excellence in Doha, Qatar. In addition to his academic career at Liverpool John Moores University and Salford University he was also the consultant Head of Biomechanics at the English Institute of Sport.
